Suddenly, an assassination attempt is made on Muawiyah's life, but he is quickly saved by his men. The killer is revealed to be a Roman, and Muawiyah orders his punishment.

The companions choose a third of them, including Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, to select the new Caliph. After three days, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf announces that he has chosen Uthman ibn Affan, and Ali ibn Abi Talib agrees.
