The Battle for the Levant

In the third episode of the Muawiyah series, the stage is set for an epic battle between the Arab army and the Persians. Muawiyah is seen preparing food, a task that surprises Amr bin Al-Aas, who engages in a discussion with Muawiyah about the similarities between cooking and politics. Meanwhile, Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah attributes their recent victory over the Persians to internal conflicts and a weakened state.

A New Challenge Emerges

News of Abu Bakr's death reaches the group, and Muawiyah and his soldiers attack a group of soldiers on the road, killing many and capturing one. The prisoner reveals that the Roman army has gathered the tribes of Ghassan, Juzam, and Lakhm, led by Jabal, and is prepared for battle. The Roman army is led by commander Mahan, king of Baltus, and is supported by the best Arab leaders in the Levant.

Preparing for Battle

Amr bin Al-Aas interrogates the prisoner, learning about the size and strength of the Roman army. Omar, the Commander of the Faithful, expresses concern about the potential reinforcements they may receive from other tribes. The leadership discusses strategy and maneuvers, deciding to move the road to Caesarea. Abu Ubaidah addresses the troops in the Yarmouk square, emphasizing the importance of sincerity and fear in their jihad.

The Battle of Yarmouk

The fierce battles begin, and Abu Sufyan loses an eye, while his wife Hind bint Utbah falls ill and dies. After the victory of Yarmouk, Abu Ubaidah sends a letter to Yazid bin Abi Sufyan, assigning him to conquer Damascus and be a compassionate father to its people. Yazid arrives at the palace of the Caliphate with his brothers and sister Juwayriyah, who expresses her wish that their mother was with them.

A New Mission

Muawiyah is awestruck by the beauty and majesty of the palace, and Yazid admits feeling fear and dread in it. Muawiyah explains that it is a feeling of responsibility after the solution and the contract became in his hands. The Commander of the Faithful assigns Yazid to conquer Caesarea, a difficult task that no one else has been able to accomplish. Habib and Muawiyah go to assess the situation, and Habib expresses his confidence that if God wills for them to conquer it, nothing will prevent them from conquering Constantinople.

A Covenant of Peace

After the conquest of the Levant in the sixteenth year of the Hijra, one of the commanders sets out to conquer Jerusalem. The people of Aelia refuse to hand over Jerusalem to anyone except Omar ibn al-Khattab, due to his integrity and honesty. Omar ibn al-Khattab arrives and Muawiyah writes a covenant, promising security for the people of Aelia, their churches, crosses, and property. The episode concludes with a reflection on the great dreams that were shattered on these walls.
